JAM tins made into hand grenades are just some of the ingenious weapons Anzac soldiers used during the first world war in response to a lack of equipment suited to trench warfare. A jam-tin bomb “factory” ended up churning out more than 200 jam-tin grenades a day. Somebody had the bright idea of using an empty jam tin, filling it full of stones, putting a small charge and a fuse in it. The scare factor would have been quite phenomenal.
For safety and hygiene, we use tins, but rather glass jars for our jam, so please don’t try to re-use our jam jars as hand grenades.
