Hard tack was the basic food staples for the deployed soldier during the first wold war. Also called “ANZAC Tiles” or “Molar Breakers” they would often be soaked in liquid or grated into soup to make them edible.
They were so durable that sometimes messages or pictures were drawn on them and they were sent home almost like postcards.
Our sweet short version is much more palatable.
